APCS

The APCS – Portuguese Association for Gifted Children, was founded in Porto in 1986 in order to recognize and respect the childrens’ rights to a quality education.

Currently, this purpose is reenforced by creating spaces of creative freedom, occupation and socializing, which aim to contribute to the development of gifted children and consequent integration in the school place, cultivating the respect for difference and valuing every individual.

Testimonies

In the fifth grade I remember not getting along with anyone because I had no interest in being friends with my peers and I would only talk with professors. I used to read and study a lot until late at night. I had a very rich vocubalary and used words and sentence structures that were too complex for my age and that my peers wouldn’t understand. I quickly became a target of bullying.

From a gifted young adult

This year, because we realized that silence and normalization does not work after all, we talked and asked for help, but we felt that no one took us seriously. It’s as if, by having so many abilities, he didn’t need any type of support. On the contrary, he is left completely adrift, left with his own abilities and inabilities.
