Action

Assessment

The identification and monitoring of each case is carried out through the use of data collected from the parents, teachers, colleagues, psychologists and the children themselves. For each profile there is a set of references to be taken into account in the search for better guidance and referral, whether in terms of the development of the teaching-learning process as well as in terms of the personal and social development of the child.

For this purpose, in Porto and Lisbon (on dates to be scheduled), assessment consultations are provided in the areas of Psychology and Psychopedagogy.

Legislation

Within the scope of Giftedness there are four documents in Portuguese legislation that can be referenced and used in favour of students with high abilities:

  • Decree-Law nº54/2018, of July 6th
  • Decree-Law nº55/2018, of July 6th
  • Legislative Order nº6/2018, of April 12th
  • Ordinance nº 223-A/2018, of August 3rd

Intervention

In school

We help and guide schools and teachers through the implementation of diversified and appropriate pedagogical strategies for the student’s profile and by prioritizing their personal and social development. We provide dynamic training and awareness activities aimed at teaching education professionals about the topic of Giftedness.

For families

We offer support and guidance to families, through consultations in the field of psychology and psychopedagogy and/or online content (through informative newsletters on legislation, rights of children, measures to be prioritized and actions to be developed). Meetings for parents are also organized, either for formative approaches or to share questions, doubts and experiences.

Projects

As part of its mission and to contribute to a quality education for gifted children, APCS develops several projects in order to invest in the abilities of these children.

Training

Policy makers, managers, teachers and parents have to take up the issues concerning the motivation and stimulation of these children. Gifted children demand the right to citizenship, the concept of individual excellence and personal achievement, and the sense of constructive and solidary advancement of humanity. They have potentials that can be enhanced through stimulation, recognition, and value-based guidance, and, in doing so, they can contribute to the construction, progress and well-being of humanity.

APCS is available to offer support to schools and to train teachers from all over the country, having been responding to requests for training from:

  • Parents Associations
  • Training Centers
  • Principals
  • Professors

In different modalities: short or long term actions, in this case recognized by the CCPFC-ME. The training of parents of children who attend Enrichment Activities, included in the schedules related to the PIC Project, has proven to be of great opportunity and interest.
